Reflection
This was a great assignment -- I can totally see myself using these "how-to" video skills in my classroom with my students. By doing this assignment, I was introduced to Pixlr, which is basically like a web-version of photoshop. It was incredibly easy to type up text and use it in my video. When using iMovie, you can't really play around with text. But by creating PNG images and uploading them into iMovie, a whole new world of opportunity awaits! I wanted to keep this video simple and short since I plan on sharing it with people of all ages and all skill levels. Slab throwing is one of the most basic techniques in ceramic hand-building, but it's not very easy to do! After lots of practice, I can now confidently say I can throw THE perfect slab. And I'm so happy I have a video to go along with this new talent!
On another note.., I'd love to have my students do their own version of this assignment. iMovie and other digital mediums are so useful, There's also so much available on the web, I was amazed that I didn't even have to open Photoshop for this project, all of the image editing software was right on the web.. I'd like for my students to be well acquainted with both the tactile and digital arts, and having them create their own 'how-to' videos would be an excellent way to practice both skills
